Fairhill House Hotel & Eddie's Bar – Connemara

Fairhill House Hotel is a popular 3 star family run hotel with a well-deserved reputation for excellent hospitality and authentic cuisine. It is located in the quaint little village of Clonbur (An Fhairce in Irish), nestled between Lough Corrib and Lough Mask in Connemara, an area renowned for its rugged beauty and unforgettable mountain scenery.

The Lynch family has been welcoming visitors to Connemara for over half a century now.   Fairhill House has proved an especially popular haunt for fishermen, ramblers, cyclists and visitors coming for Connemara's famed scenery and tranquillity.

The heart of the hotel is without a doubt, Eddie's Bar.  Eddie is the current family owner, which makes you wonder what the bar was called before he was allowed to serve pints, but in fairness it should be called Eddie's Pub.  Whereas many hotel bars have very much that hotel feel, step into Eddie's and you step into a typical Connemara Pub.  Open fire, good food, plenty of locals and good humoured staff - but what will surprise the casual visitor is the sheer number of different whiskeys available - 150 different whiskies at the last count, including the first malt produced in Kentucky since 1919, Pearse Lyons whiskey... distilled by an Irishman of course!  It is without a doubt one of the largest selections in the West of Ireland.  Eddie's Bar also offers Whiskey Tastings which can include a selection from Ireland and Scotland and includes a brief history on how whiskey is made, whiskey categories, and the distilleries in Ireland.  Whiskey Tastings need to be booked in advance (groups of 6 people minimum) at a cost of €25pp- €35pp, depending on the selection tasted.

The hotel also uses fine Irish whiskeys in several house dishes, such as Powers' Marinated Salmon, Smoked Salmon heated with Jameson, Jameson Cheesecake and Tullamore Dew Tiramisu.  The bar food menu is very extensive with a selection of traditional favourites, specialising in steaks and a large seafood selection.  Live music is also a constant feature at Eddie's Bar. During the summer months there is live music most evenings and during the winter it features every weekend.

There are 20 bedrooms in total in Fairhill House Hotel.  All bedrooms are all finished to a high 3 star standard with internet access, TV, direct dial phone and Tea/Coffee facilities.

Fairhill House makes an excellent base for discovering Connemara.  The village of Clonbur is surrounded by the Connemara mountain ranges of the Maamturks and the twelve Bens (12 Pins or Beanna Beola).  The area also offers some of the best fishing in Europe for wild brown trout, Atlantic salmon and sea trout in rivers and loughs and Fairhill House can arrange your entire fishing trip.  There are 4 Golf Courses within a short driving distance. The heritage village of Cong, including The Quiet Man Museum, the Abbey and Ashford castle is only 5 minutes' away.  There are daily cruises on Lough Corrib and  within 45 minutes drive is Galway city, Westport House, Clifden, Kylemore Abbey and Knock.
