Cronin's Pub and Restaurant - Crosshaven

Cronin's is a traditional family run pub in the heart of Crosshaven village, south of Cork city and overlooking the sea. This beautiful old Victorian pub has a unique character and charm, created by the wall to wall permanent exhibition of black and white photos of local and maritime history. Every corner is laden with antiquities and curios and there is sure to be something new to see every time you visit.

Sean is the current owner and is the man responsible for the fine whiskey selection.  Both his daughter, Joleen, and son, Denis, have inherited his interest in whiskey and will be happy to explain and recommend some of their many whiskeys available.  Cronin’s are also the only place in Ireland to offer Seafood and Whiskey Tasting evenings for pre-booked groups, so if you are travelling as a group, do contact them beforehand to see if it can be arranged.

In the pub, there is also a fantastic range of local and international beers and a very special selection of rums. Cronin’s is located overlooking Crosshaven harbour, and on a fine day, the pub will as lively on the outside as it is in.

As well as being a great watering hole, Cronin's serve lunch and dinner on a year round basis. The menu is based around home made fresh local produce, especially seafood.  Wholesome soups, open sandwiches, seafood and steak are firm lunch time favourites. The “Mad Fish” restaurant, run by Denis, opens in the evenings and caters not only for fish lovers, but also specialises in excellent local steak and vegetarian food. Cronin’s has won many awards, so if you plan to eat there in the evening, do book beforehand, as it’s always a very popular spot.  If your appetite doesn't stretch to lunch or dinner, then make sure you order the scones - freshly baked in house, served with whipped cream and raspberry jam, they are probably the best scones we ever had.

The Cronin family also run a craft shop next door to the pub and are involved in the farmer's market on Saturdays. Denis, the chef and son, makes his own pate and has a great selection of Irish farmhouse cheeses on offer.

Do explore the inside of Cronin’s Pub while you are there.  Sean was always interested in boxing and a corner of the pub has been dedicated to amazing boxing photographs and memorabilia.  Crosshaven is home to the world’s oldest yacht club, the ‘Royal Cork’, dating back to 1720, and together with Cronin's, is a sailors' favourite stop-off along Europe's western seaboard.  There are also excellent walks along the sea and river, sea and shore fishing and nearby sandy and pebble beaches.
