Druids Glen Golf Club & Woodstock House - Wicklow

The Druids Glen name originates from a stone altar of pre-christian worship, which was discovered during the construction of the golf course, in the thickly forested area overlooking the 12th Green.  Druids Glen Golf Resort is actually home to two award winning Championship courses - Druids Glen and Druids Heath. Druids Glen, often referred to as "The Augusta of Europe", is renowned around the world for its layout and beauty. The flora, fauna, forests and streams of the Glen provide a colourful backdrop to a magnificent golf course.  Design duo Pat Ruddy and Tom Craddock were given the brief to create the best inland golf course in Ireland. The classic parkland course features many signature holes and provides golfers with a thrilling golf experience amidst a beautifully manicured landscape - which is why Druids Glen is considered one of the top golf resorts in Europe. Druids Glen was the Home of the Irish Open for 4 years from 1996 to 1999 and in 2005 the resort won European Golf Resort of the Year.

Woodstock House, the clubhouse at Druids Glen, was built in 1770, a period in Irish history which saw a boom in the whiskey industry, with distillers like John Jameson and John Powers opening up their Dublin distilleries.  The house has retained that Georgian architecture and provides guests immediately with a feeling of grandeur, fitting to the world renowned golf course that is Druids Glen.

The bar at Druids Glen, which is styled in classic mahogany and polished granite, is situated in the heart of Woodstock House, perched overlooking the 18th Green and is a timeless setting to enjoy one of the many outstanding whiskeys produced in Ireland.  Garry, Druids Glen’s resident bar manager, has recently built up a very fine Irish whiskey selection and will be quite happy to guide you through some of the many whiskeys behind his bar or offer you a comparative whiskey tasting.

The bar has witnessed some dramatic tournament victories down through the years, with famous names like Colin Montgomerie and Sergio Garcia catapulting themselves into international spotlight at Druids Glen.   Pictures of these great moments can be found adorning the walls throughout the clubhouse and bar along with historical paintings of figures from Ireland’s past. This sense of sporting and Irish history throughout the House provides golfers with a unique atmosphere and there can be few finer places in Ireland to discuss the highs and lows of a round of golf while enjoying a classic Irish whiskey.
